What cookies are
Cookies are small pieces of data a website stores in your browser. Local storage is similar. They're used for everything from remembering you're signed in to tracking people across the web. UK rules (PECR + UK GDPR) require us to ask for your consent before using any that aren't strictly necessary.
Your choices
When you first visit, you'll see a cookie banner with three options: Accept all, Reject non-essential, or Customise. You can change your mind any time:
What we use
Strictly necessary (always on)
These keep the app working. They can't be turned off and don't require consent under UK law.
- Firebase Authentication session - stored in local storage (
firebaseLocalStorageDb). Keeps you signed in between visits. Set when you log in, cleared when you log out. - trustbadger:active-property-id (local storage) - remembers which of your properties you last had selected, so the dashboard opens on the right one.
- trustbadger:magic-link-email (local storage) - temporarily holds the email you entered when requesting a magic sign-in link, so the link works when you click it.
- trustbadger:cookie-consent(local storage) - remembers your cookie choices so we don't ask every time.
Analytics (opt-in only)
Only active when you consent. Helps us understand which pages get used and where people drop off. Data is aggregated; we don't identify individual users from it.
- Google Analytics 4 - sets first-party cookies (
_ga,_ga_<id>) in your browser for the trustbadger.app domain. Data is sent to Google Analytics in pseudonymised form. Retention is 14 months.
Advertising / cross-site tracking
None.We don't run ads and we don't allow third parties to track you here.
How to clear them
Sign out from Settings, or clear cookies and local storage for trustbadger.app in your browser settings. You'll need to sign in again, but no logged data is lost.
Changes
If we add a new category of cookie (for example, we add analytics from a different provider), we'll re-ask for your consent. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
